¡Hola, Nebraska! What an exciting time! Holiday lights glow against gray skies, holiday music permeates the air, and the smell of beloved dishes makes our homes feel cozy. I am incredibly thankful for the gifts of the season, including my new role as editor-in-chief of Hola America Publications: Hola America News, Hola Iowa, JEFAS Latinas in Business Magazine, and Hola Nebraska. Christine Torres continues connecting Latinos with Spanish Networking

The city of Fremont has become an epicenter of connection for the Latino community of Nebraska, which has found in the Spanish Networking Group meetings a space to exchange information about orientation and jobs for Hispanics.

This meeting space emerged 7 years ago when Christine Torres had the need to provide more information to the Latin community.

“When I came here (to Fremont) I didn’t know anyone. There wasn’t much of a Hispanic community,” said Torres, who for two years has been the membership and development director of the Fremont Chamber of Commerce, an institution that currently supports the cause.

What happens when creativity meets cultural understanding in the digital marketing landscape? For Dayana Hurtado, the answer was Supera Designs. 

It makes sense. Hurtado has an eye for design. She first discovered her creative side while in high school, designing marketing materials for her parents’ Mexican restaurant. As the years went on, she took on social media and website projects in her community. By 2021 she realized she had amassed quite a portfolio, and hence her digital branding firm, Supera Designs was born.

Trusting Her Instincts Led This Latina to Success and Service

Sprawled on the floor of her grandparent’s house in Chihuahua, Mexico, Karen Corral de Pesek spent hours playing Barbies. She created decadent worlds where her doll was a high-powered businesswoman with a briefcase she made of twigs and household items. Decades later, she would step into her own tacones as a powerhouse businesswoman and mentor who opens doors of opportunity for dreamers like her young self.

Leading with Purpose: Yesenia Peck’s Fight for Equity and Empowerment in Nebraska’s Hispanic Community

Yesenia Peck is the Diversity and Inclusion Manager at Nebraska Public Power District and President of the Nebraska Hispanic Chamber of Commerce

Yesenia Peck spends her days balancing responsibilities that center on service to her community. Her story began in Peru, where she practiced law, and continues today in Nebraska. She is the Diversity and Inclusion Manager at Nebraska Public Power District (NPPD) and President of the Nebraska Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (NHCC), where she’s volunteered for over seventeen years. Peck’s leadership is fueled by a deep commitment to access and opportunity for a more inclusive future for everyone in Nebraska.
