Colombian Consulate in Omaha: A Weekend of Service and Community Support

Omaha, NE — The Colombian Consulate will visit Omaha and will be providing services to the community on Friday, August 2, and Saturday, August 3, during a special visit to the city. Services will be available without an appointment and will be served on a first-come, first-served basis until capacity is reached.

Immigrant farmers often can’t get federal grants to start businesses. So these nonprofits are helping

Sandro Lopes and his 11-year-old daughter Maria, ambled through their nine-acre property in David City, Nebraska, discussing the future of their family farm. A dilapidated white and red farmhouse sagged to the right of the driveway, and their newly repaired barn sat a couple of yards to the left. The two eventually came to a stop under a willow tree, one Maria said she imagines reading a book under, though she would rather be doing other things like practice presenting her ducks for 4-H shows.

Pork producers face longer drives and higher costs after tough years lead to packing plant closures

On his farm near Gowrie, Iowa, Larry Alliger walked toward a row of low-roofed hog barns. He buys piglets from Colorado with his son, and between both of their operations, he said they can have around 20,000 pigs on hand.

They sell them to Tyson Foods through marketing contracts.
